Rationale

Bridging gaps between cosmic scales

Accretion is one of the most important processes in high energy astrophysics. Accretion disks, for compact objects across all cosmic scales (from super massive black-holes to white dwarfs) are found to be the main way with which gravitational energy is converted in to radiation.

Such disks appear to be strongly coupled to the presence of collimated outflows (i.e. relativistic jets) in which matter is ejected by the system at fraction of the speed of light.

Even though these two components have been known for decades, lot of questions remain still unsolved. For example it is not clear what is the exact launching mechanism of these outflows, or the physical processes which take place inside the jet.

In this workshop we will try to address these fundamental questions  approaching these topics from different points of view. In particular, thanks to the participation of several experts in different fields, it will be possible to discuss about the similarities in the inflow-outflow connection in different kind of  sources.
